BryoTan project

Bryophytes from Antananarivo Herbarium, Madagascar, sources of biological data. A project funded by the GBIF BID

BryoTan protocol

BryoTan protocol

Bryotan project aims to curate all the bryophytes specimen from Tan Herbarium, to acquire and share the data carried by these specimen, through GBIF databasis and other linked ones (Tropicos)

Specimen gathering

Bryophytes were store in raw cartoon boxes, stored in different places. The first stage is to gathered all bryophytes samples together.

Herbarium sorting

Specimen may be already identified or not. They have to be sorted at a large taxonomic level, family and then genus, species.

Data gathering

Collection data are numerized following GBIF guidelines (control, data validation etc.).  Taxonomical information will be up-dated as soon as identification confirmation will be provided by specialists.
After their validation, all data will be published on GBIF plateform and shared on Tropicos.

Taxonomic improvement

The taxonomic improvement will be  conducted thanks to workshops, local taxonomical studies, including students participation and specific packaging to international specialists when needed.

Data numerization

BryoTan specificity is to propose numerization of targeted bryophytes organs (leaves, cross sections etc.), depending on species. This will allow an efficient consultation.

Bryotan: students training opportunity

All the activities of BryoTan are the opportunity to train students, especially from Antananarivo University.
They will participate to sorting, workshop and will be trained on the field and in the lab.
