The BryoTan team met in Paris, welcomed in the french Muséum national d'Histoire Naturelle by curators of Paris Herbarium and local bryologists.
What do we did ?
During our meeting in Paris, we planed how to manage and curate in the best way the bryophytes hold in PBZT Herbarium (Antananarivo, Madagascar). The curator from PBZT herbarium evaluated that 6,000 to 10,000 envelopes contain mosses, liverworts or hornworts. Most of them are not curated, meaning with labels data (collectors, date, geographic and taxonomic information) never stored in databases and identification never confirmed or even precised for most of the specimens.
We decided to repack mosses in new envelopes when necessary, to enter the data in Excel Sheet and to take images from chosen samples.

Camera acquisition
We acquired a microscope and camera as it was planed in our project: a Moticam 3+ linked to a trinocular microscope B1 223E SP Led will allow us to take images of Mosses from PBZT herbariumand share them on the wed via GBIF databases.

The microscope gets 4 objectives, from x4 to x60.
Numeric images will be taken for each taxa from TAN herbarium collection and shared on teh web.
Numerization of bryophytes images
We discussed about the best way and the best trade-off choice for digitization of bryophytes organs. The specification are:
- to be usefull for users, amateurs and professionals for bryophytes identification
- to be adapted to the taxa (e.g. species, genus, family): identification is based various organs or view types according to taxon.
- A maximum of ~ five images / taxa in order to reach achievable goals
A planification program is built, with images needed by taxon.
